Protect Hawaiian Monk Seals!
The DLNR (ULOHA’s May Spotlight) want to encourage and remind beachgoers to follow regulations when it comes to interacting with or viewing sealife. Monk seals are CRITICALLY endangered, so we are very fortunate to have them in Hawaii.
Here are some regulations that you can follow to best protect these beautiful creatures while maintaining accordance with the law: VIEW FROM A DISTANCE (camera/binoculars); never chase or feed (OR YOUR PETS/keep dogs on leash in these areas); and limit your viewing time to a few minutes.
By following and promoting these practices, we can help prevent the decline of monk seals and continue benefitting NOAA’s recovery efforts!
