June is here and summer is coming! This means no school, beautiful weather, and so many opportunities for YOU to GET OUT THERE. From environmental projects (like our Seed Ball Making Workshop on June 19th) to health/fitness events (like the Mango Days 5k on June 18th), ULOHA is so excited to spend the month helping out and participating in our community. ULOHA’s environmental focus for the month of June will be “WATER IS LIFE.”  Being on an island in which fresh water is relatively harder to come by, it is important for us to possess a special awareness toward engaging in efficient water usage practices. In Hawaii, our primary source of drinking water is groundwater, filtered through watersheds. Stop by ULOHA to find out how YOU can GET INVOLVED with our efforts to conserve Oahu’s fresh water throughout June!    

TOMORROW (Saturday: June 3rd) is a big race day in Hawai’i! The Ironman 70.3 Hawai’i will be held along the Kohala Coast on Big Island (starting with the swim at Pauoa Bay). Racers will tough it out through a 1.2 mi swim, 56 mi bike ride, and 13.1 mi run.  ULOHA wishes the best of luck to all of the Ironmen and Ironwomen participating in such a challenging event!

The Koʻolau Mountains Watershed Partnership is ULOHA’s Spotlight Organization for the month of June. KMWP strives to best benefit the watershed by conserving and protecting the Ko’olaus. They are able to progress in these endeavors through conservation projects of these forests. GET INVOLVED with ULOHA as we work alongside KMWP (i.e. MON: JUNE 19th KMWP w/ host a SEEDBALL MAKING WORKSHOP @ ULOHA) this month to restore and protect the Ko’olau Watershed!  

Are you racing the Hibiscus Half Marathon this Sunday (May 28th)?! Start will be at Kapiolani Park @ 5:30 am. The beautiful course will take runners around Diamond Head!   ULOHA will be selling nutrition, apparel, AND MORE each day at the race expo! The expo (+ packet pickup) will be at the Alohilani Resort in Waikiki this THURSDAY (3:00 pm - 7:00 pm), FRIDAY (8:00 am - 6:00 pm), and SATURDAY (8:00 am - 4:00 pm).
